Dear Senator Webb or Warner,
We can address climate change and repower, refuel and rebuild our economy with clean energy and transportation choices but we must do it now!
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, made up of 2,000 of the world’s leading scientists, says we must reduce global warming pollution 25 - 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2020 in order to avoid the worst consequences of global warming.
It is imperative that we act now, beginning with a science-based carbon cap in 2009. Capping carbon this year becomes even more vital as the world looks to the U.S. for leadership in the run-up to the UN climate negotiations in Copenhagen in December.
That’s why I’ve joined with others across the nation in the “Put a Cap on It” campaign, which aims to show our leaders in Washington that America is ready for a carbon cap.
